Documented cause
Numbrs (Centralway Numbrs) launched as a banking super-app that aggregated all your bank accounts, credit cards, and financial products in one view. Founded by Centralway in Zurich with German operations, they raised €40M+ and built genuine banking aggregation technology. But Revolut and N26 launched with dramatically simpler UX targeting younger users, and Open Banking APIs commoditized account aggregation. Numbrs' complex multi-bank super-app was too hard to explain to mass-market consumers. They shut down the consumer app in 2019 and attempted a B2B data pivot that never gained traction.
Lesson
“Financial aggregation is valuable to power users. The mass market wants simplicity, not comprehensiveness.”
