Casai operated technology-powered short-term rental apartments in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Santiago, positioning itself as the premium hospitality startup for Latin America. The company raised approximately $48M including a $23M Series A in 2022 from Kaszek, Foundation Capital, and others. Despite genuine technology investment in guest experience and operations management, the asset-light short-term rental model in Latin American markets proved too capital intensive relative to the revenue achievable. In August 2023 Casai announced it was winding down operations, affecting approximately 200 employees.
