// WHY EACH FAILED

🔥 Rapiddo
Competition
Rapiddo built a same-day delivery network for Brazilian SMEs. After raising $15M, iFood expanded its logistics services beyond food delivery and Rappi entered Brazil with $400M in SoftBank funding. Both offered similar services at subsidized prices. Rapiddo could not compete on price or brand recognition and shut down in 2020.
// LESSON
In delivery, competing against SoftBank capital requires either a defensible niche (geography, product type, vertical) or an exit. A general-purpose last-mile network cannot survive a subsidized competitor with 20x your capital.
🔥 Habitissimo
Acquisition Gone Wrong
Habitissimo was Spain and Latin America's leading home services marketplace, connecting homeowners with contractors. It was acquired by ANGI Homeservices (HomeAdvisor) in 2017. Post-acquisition, local product focus deteriorated, engineering teams were dispersed across ANGI's global structure, and Habitissimo's market position eroded as local competitors rebuilt trust with Spanish users.
// LESSON
Marketplace network effects are hyper-local. Trust cannot be managed remotely. Acquiring a marketplace and running it from another continent destroys the very thing that made it valuable.
